There are a lot of reasons to love biking, whether because it`s an eco-friendly and affordable mode of transport, reminds you of your childhood, or provides a fun and energizing way to move your body. As you may already know, cycling is a form of cardio exercise as it requires multiple large muscle groups to work simultaneously.

Primarily, cycling is a cardio exercise. That said, it also aids in strengthening the core and lower body, more so when you pedal with lots of resistance. Whether indoors or outdoors, cycling offers several physical and mental benefits, which we`ll get into in a while. For those new to riding, you may want to get started with indoor cycling.

Second, using a stationary indoor bike allows you more control over the intensity of your workout. Also, outdoor biking requires more use of the core and upper body than its indoor counterpart, giving you a complete, full-body workout. More than being a nostalgic activity or a wallet-friendly ride, cycling has a plethora of benefits that may just inspire you to include it in your workout routine.

These include core strengthening and improved heart health, which we will be talking about next, and many more: Cycling makes a great alternative to high-impact cardio exercises like running since it doesn`t place pressure on the joints, tendons, and ligaments. So if you`re recovering from an injury or simply need low-impact activities to add to your routine, cycling is the answer. According to studies, indoor cycling improves aerobic capacity or a person`s ability to provide oxygen to the working muscles and use it efficiently. And you don`t even need to bike for hours to get these benefits.

Moreover, many cycling classes include high-intensity interval training (HIIT). HIIT doesn`t only improve heart functioning but also increases the maximum amount of oxygen the body can use during exercise and improves blood pressure and insulin sensitivity. If you cycle often enough, you`ll likely feel your muscles getting stronger. One thing everyone knows about cycling`s benefits is how it`s great for the lower half of the body.

Body areas like the quads, glutes, hamstrings, and calves are all activated when you pedal. Another benefit of cycling is better posture. Therefore, by practicing good form during cycling, it helps counteract the bad posture caused by many sedentary work routines. Engaging in this type of riding would significantly improve your coordination in the long run.

Regular cycling and other forms of exercise, in general, are linked to a lesser risk of certain diseases and conditions. According to a study, commuting to work via a bike was associated with a lowered risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, and premature death.
