Parkinson’s Disease is being shown more and more in the research to have autoimmune mechanisms as possible causative factors. A recent 2019 paper in Nature shows that the Gut-Brain Axis is involved in Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease via gut infection or dysbiosis driving mitochondrial damage and antigen presentation in genetically susceptible individuals.
