In this episode of the UCLA BrainSPORT Podcast, Adel discusses topics relating to mental health with psychiatrist, former chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences and director of the Semel Institute for Neuroscience & Human Behavior at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, Alexander Young, MD. Dr. Young is currently associate director of the Veterans Desert Pacific MIRECC Health Services Unit at the Greater Los Angeles Veterans Healthcare System. The pair discuss the mental health crisis occurring in our society today and potential causes relating to it. They cover specific elements of mental health including suicide and PTSD and speak about potential solutions, including earlier diagnosis and treatment. They further discuss mental health in the military veteran population, health care providers, retired athletes, and in those who have suffered brain injuries.
